Our Lineage

At Vairagya Yogashala, our teachers carry an unbroken transmission of authentic sound healing, traced through generations of Vedic masters and Himalayan lineage holders. Our teachings are rooted in traditional yogic philosophy, Himalayan vibrational practices, meditative sciences, and lineage-based learning passed through direct experience, mentorship, and years of dedicated study. Every practice we share has been lived, not merely learned, and Sound healing is not taught as a trend, performance, or entertainment practice.

Vairagya

THE MEANING OF

The word Vairagya comes from the ancient Sanskrit yogic tradition and refers to:
detachment from illusion,
disciplined spiritual practice,
inner stillness,
and liberation through awareness.

In the classical yogic path described within ancient texts such as the Yoga Sutras, true healing arises not only from techniques but from consciousness, discipline, integrity, and lived experience. This philosophy forms the foundation of our teachings.

Roots of The Tradition

In a rapidly growing wellness industry where “sound healing certifications” are often completed online in a few hours, and much of what is taught today has become disconnected from the ancient philosophies, spiritual disciplines, and lineage-based teachings. Vairagya Yogashala was created to preserve depth, authenticity, cultural integrity, and traditional understanding from which these practices originally emerged.

Our teachers are not simply facilitators of sound baths. They are long-term practitioners, researchers, educators, and lineage-informed guides who have dedicated their careers to the therapeutic effects of ancient sound healing techniques. Their goal is to maintain the sacred foundations of vibrational healing traditions.

Our Lineage and Path of Study

Sound healing at Vairagya Yogashala draws from two living sources: the ancient traditions that gave birth to these practices, and the years of direct, immersive study our teachers have devoted to them.

ANCIENT VEDIC TRADITION

The Samaveda is the oldest musical scripture in recorded human history, a complete system for using sacred sound as a path to inner stillness and healing. Alongside it, the Nada Yoga tradition understood sound not as performance, but as the primal vibration of consciousness itself.

Nada Brahma — The Sound of Creation

Foundational Source: Samaveda & Nada Yoga (Textual root of all Vedic sound practice)

HIMALAYAN AND TIBETAN TRADITION

Alongside the Vedic thread, the Himalayan traditions developed their own sophisticated science of therapeutic sound, through singing bowls, tingsha, overtone singing, and gongs, used for centuries in monasteries across Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan as tools for healing body and mind.

PRIMARY TEXTS

Our teachers' foundation is built on direct engagement with the original scriptural sources of sound healing, not modern interpretations. Years were spent with classical Sanskrit texts and their commentaries, building an understanding of sound that is principled, not borrowed.

YEARS OF TRAINING

Our teachers have studied with accomplished practitioners across the Vedic and Himalayan traditions, attending extended trainings, and working closely with teachers who carry authentic knowledge to deeply understand the use of sound to shift states of consciousness during healing.

DECADES OF PERSONAL SADHANA

In many traditional frameworks, the most important teacher is one's own sadhana, the discipline of daily practice over many years. Our teachers have given decades to this: sitting with the sounds, listening deeply, refining technique, and understanding healing through direct inner experience.

Daily Practice & Self-Directed Inquiry

The real teacher: sustained, disciplined personal practice

PRESENT - VAIRAGYA YOGASHALA

Everything we teach has been tested, in practice, in sessions, in our own lives. We carry these traditions with humility and rigour, honouring their depth while being transparent about how we came to them. Our students receive not a credential chain, but a living transmission of what is ancient and real.

What We Bring to Our Students

Ancient wisdom, honestly transmitted

From Ancient Texts To Lived Practice
Our teachers encountered these traditions through years of dedicated research and study, immersing in primary texts, extended practice, specialist training, and direct experience of the healing power of sound.

Years of Sadhana

Our teachers did not discover these traditions; they were born into them. Our experts carry sound healing as lived culture, not an adopted practice

PhD-level research in therapeutic acoustics means our curriculum is grounded in evidence, and every technique has both a traditional rationale and a scientific basis.

Credentials and culture alone are not enough. Our teachers have sat with these sounds daily for 16+ years collectively, a depth of personal practice that cannot be fast-tracked.

Traditional Foundations

Historically, sacred sound practices were never separated from:

  • meditation,

  • yogic philosophy,

  • breathwork,

  • spiritual discipline,

  • energetic understanding,

  • and ethical living.

At Vairagya Yogashala, we believe that removing sound from these roots removes much of its depth and transformative potential. Our school was founded on the understanding that sound is not simply music, relaxation, or entertainment; it is a sacred science explored for thousands of years through the traditions of:

  • Nada Yoga

  • Himalayan vibrational practices

  • Yogic meditation traditions

  • Mantra sciences

  • Tibetan ceremonial sound practices

  • Breath and consciousness work

  • Ayurvedic energetic systems

  • Ancient Indian philosophies of vibration and resonance

These teachings were historically passed from teacher to student through years of observation, discipline, practice, ritual, and immersion.

At Vairagya Yogashala we honor this traditional approach.

RESEARCH BASED

Our PhD teacher's research grounds Vairagya's teaching in evidence, not replacing the tradition's depth, but confirming what ancient practitioners understood intuitively: that specific sounds produce measurable, reproducible effects in the human body and mind.

Our Story

We have carefully crafted Vairagya Yogashala by drawing from our personal lives and insights gained throughout our life journey. With a deep understanding of the support our founder once sought, she curated a healing experience that empowers others to live a mindful life, embracing grace in every aspect. Since 2014, when our founder bought the first Tibetan bowl that called out to her, Vairagya has been helping people connect with their truer selves.
